I just got back from a great weekend in Toronto. Amazing food and awesome people made for a perfect weekend. We ate at a few new vegan restaurants and the food was out of this world.
You can see my last trip to TO here.
With so many new vegan food places opening we didn’t even get a chance to go back to most of our old favorites.
We drove down from Ottawa on Friday and literally went straight to The Hogtown Vegan when we got into town. The place was packed and we had to wait over 30 minutes for a table. But it was well worth the wait! We started with the Fries Supremacy. Thin, crispy fries topped with nacho cheese sauce and cashew sour cream. These were AMAZING! Possibly the yummiest thing I’ve ever eaten. For my main dish I had the ‘Chicken’ and Waffles. Battered and fried vegetarian chicken served over fresh waffles covered in a maple butter sauce. I was worried that having waffles with dinner would be weird, but nope, just tasty! Dave had the ‘Sausage’ and Biscuit Sliders. They were also delicious.
For dessert we walked a few blocks to Sweet Fantasies (Bloor and Brunswick). They have 2 flavors of Tofutti ice cream and vegan waffles cones. Tofutti is definitely not my favorite vegan ice cream, but it is worth it just for the waffle cone!
On Saturday morning we went to the Brick Works Farmer’s Market. Our plan of grabbing some fruit for a healthy breakfast was quickly thwarted when we spotted LPK’s table. They table was brimming with vegan goodies and they were frying up fresh vegan sweet potato donut holes dusted in maple sugar and cinnamon! We tried the donuts, peanut butter nanimo bar and oreo style cookies. All were amazing but the peanut butter nanimo bar stole the show. There were a few other vegan friendly vendors including Ying Ying soy foods and someone selling raw chocolate.
Look for part 2 later this week including Hot Beans!

Wow, thanks for introducing me to some really cool places to eat in Toronto! I live in the suburbs outside Toronto but I am there a lot because most of my friends live off Bloor and Old Mill or downtown. This Hogtown Vegan sounds really interesting. The food looks very American dinner! Wow, so cool. I have already sent out an sos email to my friends (who wil eat vegan with me) that we have to go here. A few weeks ago I had the tufutti icecream also at sweet fantasies. i actually love that product and was so happy to have a thick creamy icecream cone along with my friends. thanks for the great vegan eat ideas!
